In Second Life, we have this tendency to reinvent ourselves… a lot. New head comes out? We’re on it. New body? Yes, please. And let’s not forget the endless shopping for new clothes, new shoes, tattoos we can change at whim. We love reinventing ourselves in Second Life. But why?
Because it’s fun.
Because we want to.
Because we can.
And sometimes, for some of us, this reinvention is more than that. It’s almost like a therapy. Bad day? Bad experience? Broken heart? Frustration? It can all be tabled while we focus on this thing… this thing that everyone else does. This thing that isn’t quite so easy in the real world. Sometimes we just… need a change.
I find myself changing as I discover myself more. I change when I need the change. That’s why you’ll often see the same skin brands, the same hairs over and over in this blog – I simply enjoy them. They are as much me than anything else. But sometimes, I just need a change.
Sometimes, in SL as much as with RL, we fall in with the wrong crowds, or forget why we’re here, or find ourselves changing for the wrong reasons. But… the best thing about this virtual platform is that we can fix that a lot quicker than we can in real life. We have endless opportunity to do so.
So, when you need a change… make it. In SL, it doesn’t have to be permanent, and it can be an amazing thing.
