There’s something that can be said about simply observing things sometimes. Or observing people. If you spend some time watching the world around you, you’ll learn more about it. You’ll be able to figure out how it breathes, what makes its heart tick. You’ll know it more intimately. The same is true for people. You can observe them, too. How they speak, how they move, the other actions they take…how those actions may change in different scenarios. You can observe them interacting with the world, and in doing so, you can learn so much. You can start to see the truth in things if you simply let yourself.
The problem is that some people don’t like the truth. Some people don’t want to hear it, and some simply aren’t ready to hear it. Why? Because sometimes the truth can hurt. Sometimes, the act of taking the metaphorical blinders off can be painful, not just because truth is hard, but because truth comes with change.
But why be afraid of change? I guess this is something I will never understand. As someone who is a self-proclaimed creature of habit at heart, I can definitely get stuck in my ways sometimes. But… I am also at a point in my life where I have accepted, and welcomed with both open arms and an open heart, the idea of letting change into my bubble.
Because while you can learn a lot from the world and the people in it through observation, participation is more fun. Because sometimes, even though it’s hard and even though it hurts, change is necessary. Because sometimes, change isn’t this scary thing. Sometimes, it’s just good, and good for you.
The last couple months has been full of change. New things that have brought new opportunities, new and expanding relationships, new hopes and dreams… and with them, the support and unconditional love of the people in my life who truly matter. People that I likely wouldn’t have found had I continued to simply sit on the sidelines in my own life and watch everyone else live.
To those people (you know who you are) – I love you. I love all of your bits and pieces because they are a part of what makes you whole… and most of all, I want to thank you for welcoming me with open arms and loving me for who I am. I’m glad I met you after I opened my eyes. You have made this journey into this new and exciting world all the more wonderful simply by sharing it with me.
