194. How to… look at things differently.

Sometimes, when the unexpected happens, the best we can do is make a glass of lemonade with the lemons we’ve been handed. Sometimes, things simply aren’t as they seem… or at least not as we expect them to seem. And that’s okay. That’s probably a lesson each of us has learned a few times (and a few different ways) in real life. But… the same idea applies to Second Life.

If you think about it, Second Life allows us to look at so many things in different ways. We do it all the time, when we’re trying to find the perfect set-up for our newest blog post, or learning to build something new, or realizing that the thing we bought on marketplace isn’t going to work the way we’d hoped. We’re constantly re-purposing, re-configuring, and trying to look at things from new angles. Sometimes, we find the things we thought wouldn’t work out at all actually work in our favor. Sometimes, that lemonade we had to make is the best damn lemonade we’ve ever tasted. We need this kind of approach in everything that we do. We need our bright side, our silver lining. The best thing we can do is stop and allow ourselves to simply appreciate things… Even the ones that don’t go quite as we planned.

I don’t think any of us planned for Covid, for instance. How many of you thought you’d live through a global pandemic in your lifetime… because I sure didn’t. But we’re all trying to make the best of it, aren’t we? We’re working from home, we’re learning to take better care of ourselves, we’re holding gatherings online and sending packages and reconnecting with people in new and different ways because we were handed a pretty large basket of lemons and we had to start doing things differently. We all made lemonade.

We don’t plan for people to come in and out of our lives either. We don’t always plan the good stuff that happens to us, and we definitely don’t plan the bad. Things just happen, and we just keep moving. We learn how to change it up. Try it every once in a while. Look at the world through your friend’s eyes, or your child’s. Look at it through your dog’s. They get excited about almost everything, don’t they? So can you if you open your eyes and allow yourself to look at things from another angle.
