The true secret to surviving lag lies in stopping your forward motion – even if just for a moment. See, you have to stop for a second to appreciate the fact that something has gone wrong… otherwise, you’re going to careen off the edge of a cliff, or find yourself face-planting against a wall, or worse… in a wall. Lag has hit all of us at least once in our lives.
And I’m not talking about just in Second Life, either.
Sometimes, I find that the best way to get through the hard times is to let myself live in that moment for a minute. I need to cry over it, or give it a little thought, or take some time to write it all down. Why? Because if I don’t, if I simply push through it and pretend that nothing was ever wrong, I might still come out on the other side, but I will come out having learned nothing and gained nothing from the experience. And when that happens, it’s a given that I’m going to repeat it again and again and again until I figure out what the problem was in the first place.
It’s times like those that you’ll see who the real and true people are in your life. Did they wait for you as you marched off into oblivion? Send you a life-preserving teleport? Or did they just leave you to crash and burn?
