It’s been a helluva year, hasn’t it?
Sometimes, when we feel at our worst, it’s hard to see the brighter side of things. I speak here from personal experience, of course. I’ve talked a few times about how it feels to be down in the pits… and how it feels to rise up out of that, too. We’ve all been there once or twice at least. But this year? This year has been harder than most for so many reasons.
Sometimes, it’s hard to find the beauty in things when it feels like everything around you is caving in and falling apart. But… one of the wonderful things about having this virtual world to explore is that, at least here, at least for a little while, we can reclaim some of the control we’re lacking in the real world right now. Instead of focusing on the ugly parts of the world, we can look for the beautiful things… and when we can’t find them, we can make them ourselves. We need a gathering with our friends and loved ones? We can do it. We need a hug? We can do that too. Looking for a bit of snow to make it feel like the holidays? Got it in droves.
Sure, it’s not the same as the real thing, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still appreciate it for what it is. Think of it this way: We all believed in Santa Claus at some point, right? We couldn’t see him and we couldn’t touch him or talk to him, but we believed he was real, and so he was. We need to dig into that same magic well now and give ourselves the room we need to smile again.
