93. How to… show your true colors.

I think so many people use that expression about showing someone’s true colors in a negative light, and since I wanted to play a bit in Photoshop today and I also want to add some positive vibes in your afternoon, we’re going to flip that script on its head and talk about how wonderful and beautiful and absolutely freeing it is when you get to just be yourself.

I know it can be a scary concept, guys. I’m aware of that. I’ve struggled with self-acceptance for a long time. Accepting that I didn’t look like other people, for example, or that I am not able to do some of the more simple things that other people take for granted. Accepting my own skin, and learning to see the beauty in the many flaws society has told me to hate about myself. Accepting that I’m not perfect, that sometimes things just go wrong. Accepting who I was at the root of things… and learning not only to tolerate that person, but to love her unconditionally. It’s scary, and it’s not easy, especially in today’s society… but you know what?

It’s so worth it, y’all. You should never be afraid to show the true you, and if you are, chances are you’re hanging around the wrong kinds of people. You shouldn’t have to keep your mouth shut, close yourself off from the world, or languish in a closet to make other people happy. Be. Yourself. It’s rewarding, and on top of that, you’re going to realize that there are so many people out there who love you and support you and want to be in your life because they love the real you. Your true colors are as beautiful and unique as you are, and you should share that with the world.

Isn’t that one of the beautiful things about Second Life? We have our pretty avatars and we can dress them up like dolls all day long and spend our lindens and make them look however we want, but at the end of the day, we also get to be a more authentic version of ourselves… Not because we all have the opportunity to look like contestants on America’s Next Top Model, but because Second Life allows us to strip those filters from the real world away and celebrate all the little things about us that make us… well… us. We can be who we want, build what we want, live where we want. We can meet wonderful people and build beautiful relationships. So why not let your true colors shine a bit brighter and embrace yourself?

I have faith in you.
