I couldn’t help it. I’ve seen a few of the SL yearbook challenge photos floating around Facebook and Flickr lately, and then Trouble made a smart comment, and well… here we are. I promise there’s a point that goes beyond me being a snarky brat, though! See, the other day, I was minding my own business, galloping around my home sim on the back of an adorable dancing dinosaur, and I galloped us right off of the pier and into the water… where I was reminded that my home sim has just as many surprises “under the sea” as it does on land. So, what did I do, you ask? I galloped around some more – me and my dancing dino – just because I could.
Overlooking the fact that both of the above scenarios are impossible and would have a 150% probability of an excruciatingly painful death in real life – it was a blast.
And then I realized something else. And I’ll admit – this is probably more true for those of us who have a second job to go along with our second lives, but… Y’all, sometimes, we take things way too damn seriously. We are literally the dream-makers of this platform where we can do whatever the hell we want, and yet sometimes, we can’t get ourselves out of work mentality long enough to enjoy it. I. Rode around. On a dinosaur. A dinosaur, guys.
And you know what? Doing so didn’t help me accomplish any of the dozen things I need to finish this week. It didn’t help me finish a photo for a sponsor, or a pose prop for a new event. It sure didn’t help me with my statistics homework, either. But it was a moment of fun and magic at a time when, to be frankly, the real world is trying to suck the joy out of most of it. And I needed that. I think every once in a while, we all need that.
